Miranda Lambert has given the first glimpse of The Weight of These Wings, sharing the album cover on social media.
The cover featuring an rustic black-and-white photo of Lambert carrying a guitar, with an aged translucent frame laid over the photo. A set of dark wings sprout from a heart behind Lambert’s figure that look like they could be made of heavy iron. An old barn peers out from the background as she walks toward the camera across the farmland.
The cover is framed in a Polaroid with the album title ‘written' in Sharpie on the bottom, along with a date: Nov. 18, the day it hit shelves.
If the folksy feel of "The Weight of These Wings" cover is any indication, perhaps many of the songs inside the jacket will have a bit of a folk-country flair this time around. Perhaps a little less electric, a little more banjo? Lambert’s songwriting shines in the simple ballads.
The lead-off single for The Weight of These Wings is "Vice," a song which is true to her edgy, but sensitive style. Thus far, the album itself has been a bit of an enigma.
“They kept a real tight lid on the project,” Josh Osborne, one of Lambert’s co-writers on “Vice,” tells Taste of Country. “I wasn’t even 100 percent sure she’d cut this song,” he shares, adding that he isn't sure if she had recorded any of the other songs they wrote together for the record.
As Lambert is usually fairly private about personal matters, fans also can’t wait to hear whether or not Lambert touches directly on her very public divorce from Blake Shelton, his also-public relationship with Gwen Stefani, or hers with Anderson East.
The Weight of These Wings was produced by Frank Liddell, Glenn Worf and Eric Masse.
Lambert recently had to cancel the rest of her shows on the Keeper of the Flame Tour due to mandatory vocal rest, so she is not currently on the road.
