Just like the snow forts and snowmen Americans love to build on snow days, the Swedes also have a fun winter creation that you'll see on front lawns after it's snowed.
Known as a snölykta, this cone-shaped lantern is made from a pyramid of snowballs, and building one is a wintertime tradition for most Swedes, according to Mental Floss. In this tutorial, videographer Daniel Troger shows you exactly how he built a large one the last time he was in Sweden.
"When I then told our neighbor in Sweden that in other parts of the world people have never seen a snow lantern, he said, 'Well that's strange, I mean here in Sweden, building a snow lantern is kind of the first thing a child learns to do when it's winter,'" Daniel wrote in the video description on YouTube.
To make one of these beauties at home, assemble a base of snowballs, and then place some inexpensive outdoor lights or tea light candles inside before closing the top. Many of these lanterns are usually smaller than Daniel's, but they still produce an extraordinary glow.
Sorry Frosty, we want to build a snölykta instead!
